I considered entitling this "The Paradox of Bespoke" - the converse of reusable code being bespoke code, one-off code.
Code is infinitely reusable, and as such, it can feel like a great waste, and present a substantial hit to motivation, to produce bespoke code that will never be reused.
However, building with code is (*sometimes!) an act of creation as circumstantial and unique as building a piece of custom furniture or making a painting. If it is built by hand, it is built to purpose, and constrained and shaped by present circumstances, and subject to decay and obsolescence, and never to be repeated in exactly the same way.
